I have been working at my local newspaper for a year now and to be fair, most of what I have to do is pretty bland. School board meetings, city council meetings, a protest over flower beds… not quite my cup of tea.
But today, something magical happened. I wrote a Sunday package about Adopt a Senior Pet Month (November) and how many senior pets were adopted out in the Mahoning Valley. It was a cute fluffy story about why people should consider older animals when adopting a pet.
I didn’t think anything of it because I needed a weekend story so I forgot about it. Well, today I got a message from the Mahoning County Dog Warden. They asked if I had done a story on Chloe, a 9-year-old pitbull with sweet eyes and territory issues. It turns out that a lady read my story and decided to check Chloe out.
I don’t know anything about the lady but the warden said she is coming back in a few days to take Chloe home! It’s unbelievable that an article of mine did that! I am very blessed to have been able to help Chloe out like that, it’s very heartwarming.
I had no idea I could have that kind of impact with my writing. I don’t always love my job, again BOE and trustee meetings are dry, but it’s times like this that remind me of why I write.
Enjoy your forever home Chloe!
