My Story

Hi, I’m Beth. Being from a small town in Ohio, I never thought I would amount to much. The flight of the steel mills left the area depressed and empty. I was tired of living day to day believing that my life wasn’t going to have color. So, I began to write.

Writing gave my life meaning, it gave me something to look forward to; a way to let out my frustrations and dreams and hopes. I love movies, always have, and I used to think “why can’t my life be like that?” Knowing that there was no way to turn Youngstown into a movie, I figured that I would lose myself in what I wrote. I would write about what I wanted my life to be: the prince charming and the castle and the happiness that I couldn’t get from where I was.

It never occurred to me that I could literally write movies. I started off experimenting with novels and when my attention span failed, I tried poetry. I still like poetry, love it actually, but I use it more as a release. I vent a lot. And although I’d love to publish poetry, I like keeping it to myself for the time being. Let’s not even begin with my songwriting…

When I got to college I was trying to immerse myself in as much literature as I could. YSU offered a screenwriting class and I was immediately drawn to it. So here I am, a screenwriter, circa 2012. I instantly fell in love with this craft. It’s visual and it’s a lot less intense than the novel I started in 2006.

In 2017, I started an alter-ego known as the “Tipsy Dancer.” I can’t take all of the credit as my wonderful boyfriend helped me out here. (Thanks Ryan) The Tipsy Dancer is a craft beer and dance blog.

The non writer part of me works as a choreographer for my Alma Mater’s flag and dance line. I’ve been dancing since I was 4 years old and started working for the school pretty much since the minute I graduated. I have also participated in local theater productions (#twigsandberries) where I worked on and off stage.
The arts is my passion and it makes my life worthwhile. I feel like I’m doing more than just existing when I write. And that’s all I can really ask for.
