As a woman, I am naturally drawn to female characters. It makes sense because these characters are relatable. Outside of the obvious, I love these characters because they prove that women can do anything.
Violet Baudelaire is the eldest orphan from A Series of Unfortunate Events. I love this character because she is constantly outsmarting her foes with her skills. She’s a miniature McGyver. She knows how to take the items that are around her and makes them useful. I hate to say it but I love this series and the fact that there is a Netflix show makes it even better. Anyway, Violet may be only a teenager but she defies the odds and keeps her siblings safe.
Like Violet, Hermione uses her skills to her advantage. She uses her intelligence to help her friends get out of danger. She values education and hard work and knows that brains are just as necessary in battle as brawn is. She has been dubbed the brightest witch at Hogwarts and she worked hard for that title.
I love these characters because I grew up with them and their stories. These two have taught me so much. I have learned that school becomes more bearable when you put your head in a book and believe that one day your work ethic will prove most successful. The more knowledgeable you are, the more likely you are to save your life or at least to get yourself out of a snare or pickle. Violet had everything taken from her and Hermione had to learn about this new world from scratch, but they didn’t let that stop them. Knowledge is power and these characters are the epitome of that.
